Great for live music, even better for mulled wine. When it comes to a great winter brew, this K'Rd gem does some of the best mulled wine in the city. They source their wines locally and infuse it with a secret range of spices. It's a great idea for a Friday night with friends during the colder months. Come listen to some sweet tunes and imbibe in a glass of the good stuff. Heaven in the city!
Easily Auckland's best live music venue hands down, beautiful humans gather in the heart of k rds great land mark 'St. kevins arcade' to hear some of NZs (and international)best live music. Some of the best have played here over the years. The bar is cheap, the couches are comfy and eclectic. The fellow audience is perfect. #music #nzmusic #musicvenues
An absolute classic right in the middle of K Rd, and my favourite weekend go-to when I’m at a loose end. A night at Wine Cellar/Whammy is always full of surprises and never the same as the one before. The stages across the two connected bars regularly host a huge array of bands and musical styles - punk, metal, electronic, jazz, neo doom-folk…often in the same night! Whammy’s dancefloor provides ample space to mosh and bounce around, while Wine Cellar boasts an array of derelict but insanely comfortable couches that will remind you of your student flatting days. The outdoor/smoking area is a dark, grungy sort of alleyway between the two which oozes character. It’s a great place to make new friends, and the unique charm of this place is so infectious there are many nights I’ve missed every band I came to see after getting lost in conversation with quirky strangers. The staff are a lively, entertaining bunch who are always up for some banter. They’re happy to give drink recommendations, or if you’re too shy to ask go with the craft cider – it’s delicious. And if you need a little dose of philosophical wisdom to finish your night, the graffiti on the bathroom walls offers some very funny insights into the great times others have had here!
