The food was a bit average, but I would definitely recommend this place for drinks. Casual setting, unlike a 'traditional' Country Club, which I quite liked. I would recommend sitting on the padded seats if you're going there for a meal, as the other chairs are not comfortable for longer periods of time.
I really liked the setup of BCC as a summer bar. Airy interior/exteriors, plenty of greenery and spaces to relax in a place that feels outdoorsy but acts indoorsy. In fact, I’m sure BCC may well climatize nicely into winter with some good heating. Anyway, try the Seresin ‘Momento’ Riesling, by the glass on their list. And their pizza. Good choices.
Country club, this term usually conjures up an image where the social elite and the wealthy gather, usually for a round of golf during the day and formal (dinner) functions are held. The Britomart Country Club is located right in the middle of downtown Auckland in the Britomart transport complex, and easily missed if you don't pay attention while walking past. When you step inside however, you discover an urban indoor garden setting, with an open bar and seating plan. The various ornaments, such as golf clubs placed around the side walls adds to that country club feeling. Being a bar/restaurant/live music venue, they offer a modern causal menu. On this sunny and fine lazy afternoon, we ordered the BCC beef burger, fish of the day (Hapuka), fries and coffee for lunch. Coffee arrived 10 minutes after the order was placed and the food 10 minutes after that. The staff was warm and friendly, and has no issues when enquired about the fish and customizing the burger. Food arrived at our table and presentation was simply top notch. The beef burger across the table from me is done exactly to order and you can't wait to take a bite out of it. Meanwhile, my fish was cooked perfectly, moist and flavourful, accompanied by a risotto cake on the bottom, herb aioli over the 2 pieces of Hapuka with a side mesclun salad with pieces of sundried tomatos. In fact, it's easily one of the best fish dishes I've had while dining out in a long time. They also have a comprehensive pizza menu, and high tea is served during the day, which I'll have to come back and try. Price is very reasonable, in fact I am somewhat surprised they aren't higher given the quality and location. Definately excellent value here that most can afford, not just for the wealthy and elite. As I am sitting here, a good mix of laid back jazz and soul music is played in the background. As mentioned before, they have live bands at night and hosts regular events throughout the year. Definately a good place to dine and relax in the city. If you haven't been to a country club before, head into this one, even if it isn't an actual country club out in the countryside.
