The perfect day of pampering

Went to Silk Tree to treat myself and the boyf to a one-hour massage. An excellent decision. The ladies were friendly, the room was perfectly warm, the interior was very clean and classy, and I left so relaxed that I was practically sleepwalking. Plus they even texted me the morning of to remind me about my appointment. Highly recommended.

I forgive Hairmony for their name because they are otherwise pretty cool. I went in for a Brazilian wax and the beauty technician, Roxie, was great. She made the experience as pleasant and comfortable as is possible. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, and there’s a discount for return customers. I’ve been going from salon to salon thanks to grabone, but this place is a keeper. It’s a bit out of my way but definitely worth the trip.

I went to Paradis this evening for a basic manicure and pedicure. I've never really bothered with this sort of thing before, but I think I’m now a believer. The interior is pretty classy, chandeliers and fireplaces and nice wallpaper. The chair for the pedicure gives you a massage while your nails get did, and the ladies there are friendly and professional. The experience was very relaxing, and I can’t get over how great my hands and feet feel. And the manicure itself is tidy and basically looks perfect. I chose a dark red and feel very grown up.

Neighbourhood is my favourite place to go for a casual afternoon drink - it has such a fantastic atmosphere. The outside seating area is large and inviting if it’s sunny, but if it’s not the inside is equally lovely. There’s a great mish mash of chairs and decorations, massive bookshelves, and a huge window overlooking Mt. Eden. The bartenders are friendly, and the cocktails are interesting and always delicious.

    The Civic Theatre
    Auckland Central
I love the Civic. The shooting stars on the ceiling, the 1920s/Great Gatsby-esque grandeur, the weird elephant statues… and it’s host to some awesome events. I go here as often as I can.

I love Dr Hauschka products, so I decided to treat myself to a facial at Equipoise. My therapist was amazing. Made me feel completely comfortable and the whole experience was relaxing, informative, with a great deal of attention to detail.  My skin feels amazing and I've rebooked already for a follow  up!

I am a regular at both the Newmarket and CityWorks Depot branches of Dry & Tea, and not just visiting to get my hair done. They are absolutely passionate about beautiful teas too, and stock the most amazing range from T2 that includes my favourites: Liquorice Legs and Gorgeous Geisha. They even have tea-related gifts you can buy and take home, like Limoges cup and saucer sets at $199 a pop! Now THAT is every day luxury.

Glamorpuss Cosmetics is one of Newmarket’s hidden gems and an absolute Mecca for lovers of beauty products everywhere. They stock the full range of makeup line Becca, as well as British organic Skincare line Pai and the legendary Mario Badescu - amongst others! They also do a beautiful, natural makeover if you’re off somewhere special or just looking for some expert inspiration.

    Bobbi Brown Cosmetics
    Auckland Central
A visit to the new Bobbi Brown store at Britomart is like walking into heaven on earth for a beauty junkie like me, I could literally spend all day in there. The products are naturally amazing, and the staff are so approachable and knowledgable that you learn something new about the global mega brand every time you pop in. It is the perfect place to spend some time having a bit of a winter makeover too - let the experts work their magic and then hit the town!

They have treatment menu that covers everything from medi facials and peels to Botox and fillers, and they stock doctor only Skincare ranges that will make serious changes to the health of your skin if you’re ready to take the extra step. Their staff are amongst the most highly trained in the country too, so you know you’re in good hands.

Dr. Teresa Cattin at Faceworks is New Zealand’s most highly respected cosmetic doctor, with a fine line in all manner of needles. She is a spokesperson for the use of Botox and fillers here and around the world, and is a fountain of information if you’re in the market for a little rejuvenation. So on my visit I got the "Full Bloom Escape", valued at $410. As soon as I got there they asked if I wanted a herbal tea, so I drank that then went into the room. They were so nice and easy to talk to. I started off by having an exfoliating massage with pomegranate scrub and moisturizers - it was heaven. They did my back, legs and arms then turned over to do front legs and arms and neck. Next was the facial, lots of detoxifying products used and toners and cleansers then a face mask, had that on for 30 mins, was so relaxed I almost fell asleep! Then they put more moisturizer on. Finally had a manicure and pedicure, such cool colours! Whilst I had my pedi they brought in a tray with cold water, watermelon, blueberries cheese and gluten free bread and magazines. It was the best day ever.

I came to Phoenix Cosmetics to get an eyelash extension. They offer very competitive rates compared to most other eyelash bars in Auckland. It cost me $50 for a full set of eyelashes where most other places cost around the $100 mark for a great job. I have been to Phoenix on two different occasions; one was for my birthday because I had gotten a voucher and the second was a few months later because I had loved the first outcome so much. The second visit was sadly a bit disappointing, the eyelashes weren’t as good as the first ones I got done. The girl said that they had ordered new eyelash material that week so that would be why, and it just was not as good as the last one they were using so hopefully since then they have changed back again since then because the first set were amazing!

    East Day Spa
    Auckland Central
East Day Spa offers beauty treatments and therapy in a relaxing and elegant setting. As soon as you walk through the doors, you are submerged into what seems like another world. With Indian influences protruding through every inch of the establishment, you feel like you have been transported to a traditional Indian village. You are asked to wait in a room where they give you a beverage of your choice. Once my appointment to get my eyebrows threaded had commenced, although hurting a lot my experience was very relaxing and professional. This spa is pricier than other beauty businesses I have visited but it is definitely on the higher-end of the spectrum.

Fantastic little nail salon located on the summery streets of Takapuna. I received a voucher for my birthday and I accidently left it a bit too late, the voucher expired at the end of February and I called American Nails a couple days after it expired and they kindly let me still use it. My voucher was for a shellac manicure + colour. I chose a light pink. The girl doing my nails was very professional it was clear she had been doing this a long time, it was all very effortless. My nails were done in about half an hour and they looked great and I got many compliments over the next few weeks. The shellac is a new thing where the colour is semi-permanent and does not come off for about 3 weeks. As good as nail salons get!

I got a deal off Grabone for a full set of eyelash extensions and I had previously heard about it from a friend after complimenting her lush lashes. I very often see this deal too so be sure to keep your eyes peeled. The girls are always so friendly with me, I think they are all Korean because I had a chat with one of the girls about Gangnam Style and what the lyrics were actually saying which was when she told me she was from there. So most of the girls aren’t that great with English but they are so sweet! The end result is always fantastic and you get so many compliments from strangers about the lashes, always a plus. So you end up referring a lot of people to this place which is good because I think they are fairly new so It is nice to get a good company recognised! Love this place!

TK is my favourite store to buy a summer dress. I’ve got a sarong from a few years ago that can be worn as a dress. It’s a gorgeous silk print and I love it. I’ve also got two great cotton dresses one in grey marle and one in aubergine that are backless. I get compliments on them all the time. This will be my first port of call when their summer range is in!
