Where to take your sweet tooth
- 147Chocolate Boutique CafeParnellA diabetics nightmare and a gluttons dream. With myself being the latter, I both highly regret and love that I found this place. I purposely try not to come to this place because a) I would be obese if I came every time I had the urge to and b) I take about half an hour to make a decision on what I want, ensuring I weigh up all the pros and cons about each individual item up against each other to get maximum benefits of chocolate-goodness with my ultimate decision. I have to say my favourite is the hot white chocolate drink . It is absolutely 10/10 and just thinking about it now makes me want to go and get one… Chocolate Boutique makes me feel like I have an eating problem and I am fine with that.
- 228Delish CupcakesForrest HillI’m not sure what it is about girls loving pretty little cupcakes but they are a sure fire winner. Boys if you are ever in trouble with the missus then just get her a box of these bad boys and everything will be fine, I promise you. The presentation of these cupcakes is so cute, there’s endless designs and flavours to choose from. Not only do they look so amazing that you barely want to eat it because you’d ruin its beauty, but they taste like a slice of heaven. I’m hardly the world’s biggest fan of sweet things but I would never ever say no to a cupcake from Delish. My favourite is the Cookie Dough caramel cupcake, doesn’t even the name just sell it to you? Let alone the fact that it tastes like bliss.
- 318Movenpick TakapunaTakapunaEeeeeveryone loves Movenpick. Their delicious creamy whipped icecream is too good to resist. On my most recent visit, I asked the worker what in their opinion was the best and they said the banana one and I had never gotten that so I did, it was sooo good. Definitely try that one out. I have also recently gotten the raspberry flavoured one, which was very adventurous for me as usually I stick to the chocolately types, I mean if I am going to get icecream I am going to go all out and not get fruit. But I had no regrets here, I was going to buy a tub of it but thought I’d better calm down and not make rash decisions. Never had a bad experience here, the icecream is always amazing and the workers very friendly. I love how clean the shop always is too because I am a clean-freak. Great place to come on a date or even with kids, Movenpick is extremely practical!
- 472Kiwi Yo - Mission BayMission BayI first came here only recently after hearing multiple reviews about how amazing it is. So I had to go try it out so to not miss out on said amazing icecream. Being the indecisive person I am this store is extremely annoying. There are endless options for the icecream that you first choose then the toppings you decide to go on it. And because there is no limit I was standing there for a very long time while my friend sighed loudly to hurry me along. All else you need to know is that there are NERDS, remember those retro lollies from your childhood? Yep, well, they have them. Oh and be careful not to overload with too many toppings or it just tastes weird. Oops.
- 543Shaky Isles KingslandKingslandI first went to Shaky Isles about 7 months ago. The menu was amazing, I ordered a traditional kiwi breakfast with bacon, eggs, baked beans and all that jazz. It was fantastic but my Whittaker’s mochaccino was the winner! The place is great, lovely ambience and it’s somewhere you want to sit outside so you can possibly be spotted by, say, an ex-boyfriend who will see you looking extremely trendy and chic, even if you are sitting by yourself which is most likely the case for me. You MUST get the Whittaker’s mochaccino or hot chocolate and let the chocolate stick slowly melt and sink like the titanic before drinking. So delishiously chocolatey, although I think watching the chocolate dissolve and sink was half the novelty for me.

- 156Gina's Italian KitchenNewtonFor my friend’s birthday we decided to go to Gina’s after hearing a positive review from a friend’s mum. Upon arrival we are greeted by a flock of energetic Italian men who were thrilled to see a group of 10 young girls wander into their midst. I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognaise - something common - as I enjoy comparing and contrasting similar dishes at different restaurants. The service was accommodating, to say the least. Upon hearing we were there for our friend’s birthday, one of the waiters disappeared off to the kitchen after excitedly rambling in Italian. A few minutes later he reappears, shirtless, with cream on his torso. A few other waiters followed in tow singing Happy Birthday to our friend whose expression can only be explained as a mixture of bewilderment and elation. As a direct result of this occurrence, I only remember small yet significant details of my meal. It was certainly delicious and is still one of the best Italian dishes I have consumed with a large portion for a decent price. Gina’s Italian Restaurant is a fantastic place to go if you have a passion for proudly and devotedly cooked cultural dishes, and if you are a female. It is now apparent why our friend’s mother was so ecstatic about the place.
- 222Vivace Restaurant LtdAuckland CentralLocated on Auckland’s High Street in central town, Vivace offers an impeccable dining experience. After walking up a tall flight of stairs, it brings you into the Mediterranean restaurant where you are greeted by friendly waiters who show you to your seat. My friend and I chose to sit outside where we could overlook High Street whilst enjoying our dinner and drinks. We started off with cocktails, followed by some hot and cold tapas. The spicy meatballs were perfection. We also got salt and pepper squid, grilled haloumi and fresh bread with olive oil and salt, all of which were to die for. All this incredible food and we were yet to even start on our mains. I chose the chicken fillets wrapped in bacon, while my friend ordered the lamb shanks. One of the best meals I have ever had, solid 10/10. The waitress was also very friendly and helpful on what to order for both the food and drinks which was great for my indecisive nature. Can’t wait to go back to this place.
- 3110Mexico Auckland CentralAuckland CentralThis is easily one of my favourite spots to go in Auckland and I am absolutely addicted to the soft shell fish taco. With such a cultural vibe and friendly, casual atmosphere here it is impossible not to have a great time on every visit. I like to get the $12 chicken or beef quesadilla as it is so filling and equally delicious. The soft shell tacos are only $6 each and the taco loyalty card is nifty too. This is a great place to come if you want a cheap meal but don’t want to subject yourself to the guilt of a big mac, because here you can indulge in the fresh ingredients and not have it put any strain your health or wallet.
- 49Gengis Khan is similar to Gengy’s, which I have reviewed also. Gengis Khan I think was the original Mongolian BBQ restaurant and since then many similar have been established. I just love this place, I would give it 10 stars if I could. For people like me who have no control over eating habits and eat not until I am full but until I hate myself, this place is heaven. So you pick all your meats, veges, oils, spices and so on, then they cook it for you on a large circular table teppanyaki style. It is all you can eat hence my absolute passion for this place, and I certainly take that as a challenge. The pancakes here are amazing, I am not really one to eat dessert but I always have to have at least 2 helpings of pancakes here, HIGHLY recommended.
- 529Ah, the tried and true. Can’t say I have met a person that doesn’t like Renkon and the Parnell store is the perfect one to meet up with those friends who work around the city and don’t have all that long for a lunch break because it is cheap, delicious, quick, filling AND healthy. I am a huge fan of Japanese food so to find somewhere that fits all of the above categories was great, let alone trying to find any food place like that in general in Auckland. My heart lies with the karaage chicken. It is fried chicken with rice and veges and it tastes like upper class KFC, and I like to pretend I am fancy. I don’t think you could go wrong with this place, I will fight you if you think otherwise.
