Over eighty beautiful historical vessels are expected to compete over three days on Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour as part of the annual racing series organized by the Classic Yacht Association of New Zealand. Lovingly restored and maintained in as near to traditional fashion as possible, these elegant vessels are true to what the vessels on Auckland Harbour looked like over one hundred years ago. Many of the boats will be on display in the Auckland Viaduct, berthed outside the Events Centre in the Wynyard Quarter at the end of each day. The public are welcome to take a stroll along the water’s edge to admire first hand the beautiful sleek hulls, the traditional rigging, and to talk to the owners and sailors who keep these boats alive. Racing commences with one race on Friday 8th February, two on Saturday 9th and a final race on Sunday 10th.

I have nothing but Love for Laneway Festival. So many awesome memories, from seeing Florence and the Machine in the pouring rain, blissing out to Blonde Redhead and snapping polaroids of the revelers in ‘12, it’s always a wonderful day out! This year organisers promise an extravaganza of an event which is bigger and better than ever! The lineup includes more than 20 acts, including Bat For Lashes, Of Monsters and Men, Alt-J and Bailterspace. There will be a new stage inside a silo, double the bar size and lots of shade in case you get a case of the hots.
Can we say, “Nom nom nom”? The Auckland Seafood Festival is unmissable for all lovers of kai moana. Don’t miss out on some delicious bluff oysters and dare to try something a bit different. Perfect for a date with someone special or a big group of friends - secure your tickets now! Image via Urban+Explorer: Flickr
Get down to Wynyard Quarter to watch some of the world's finest triathletes (AKA punishment-junkies) compete in the new, annual Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship. The world champs-qualifying event will feature local stars Cameron Brown, Bevan Docherty and Terenzo Bozzone. The action kicks off at 6.30am and the final finisher should be done by 3pm. It’s free, so there’s no reason not to live vicariously through these incredible sports people or just have a bit of a perv. Photo credited to phwconz : Flickr
Came to see this place a little after the RWC- it's beautiful. They have a great line of restaurant/bars near the water. They have a great garden/green section, playground, basketball courts and storied view (not sure what it's called) They have regular movie nights that I have yet to attend, would love to one day + markets and cool things. Definitely worth checking out- free and it's beautiful! Must see
