This place seems to be really popular as every time I come here, its packed! The shop itself is quite small though. They have the craziest selection of lollies and chocolates from around the world, with a large amount from the Stales. They also have a lot of Willy Wonka's branded lollies which is great. Also love that they sell Twinkies here.
The Candyman is an awesome store! It makes me feel like I'm in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or something as there are so many things to look at, and so many things I have never seen before! The staff are very helpful and whilst it is a bit more expensive than supermarket lollies it's far more exciting and a real novelty - if you haven't been you MUST check it out.
It's funny to hear a shop assistant try to explain to a skeptical buyer why he or she should pay $15 for a bar of low quality Hersheys chocolate because "it's American". Nevertheless, I can see the appeal of this place, even if it's just to get some Peanut Butter M&Ms. The smaller lolly packets they make up there look pretty good as well - even if it's not really my kind of thing. If there's a sweet that you miss from UK or USA there's a pretty good chance they stock it here - if you just want some nice chocolate there are better places to go.
The Candyman in Mt Eden village is the only store i have found in Auckland to stock a wide range of excellent candy that is foolishly not generally available in New Zealand. This is great for particular hankerings from your past trips to the USA and Europe. And also for gifts for your less fortunate friends and family in other parts of New Zealand. Who doesn't need an occasional source of peanut butter m&ms!
