We went here with the voucher for the four course meal. It was a great way to try lots of dishes on their menu. The service was really good and the meals came out so fast with hardly any break in between. Great if you are having 2 courses but we were had four!!! Cant complain though :) Good service wins hands down. Reasonably priced place for the location and it was handy having a parking lot opposite as it is in Parnell.
I've been to quite a few Thai restaurants in my time and alot of them are good, pleasant enough but ho-hum all the same. Starry Thai is not at all Thai themed in decor but feels more suited to an upmarket cafe in New York. Then the menu arrived and is full of delectable sounding dishes. We chose the mixed entree. Always a winner and didn't fail to please. Next we had the Tom Yum soup which I didn't enjoy but my partner did. We followed up with 4 mains ( for 4 of us) including the Prawn green curry (very good), Pork red curry (again very good) chicken penang (2nd best I've had in Auckland and OMG good) and finally a Beef Rendang (beautifully tender steak in a rich spicy sauce; only negative was the excess fatty oil in the sauce and the addition of potatoes which I don't feel is necessary and definitely distracts from the intention of the meal being primarily spicy beef. Overall very good tasty food. The kids wanted dessert, and since they were free on our voucher, we ordered a purple rice and a creamy banana coconut milk pudding (the only choices available). Lets just say forget pudding and buy a trumpet on the way home. Way too milky albeit tasted interesting. Overall Starry Thai is a very good Thai restaurant with a large menu offering some excellent choices. Parking was excellent out the back in the Strand pub parks. The staff were very good and the environment although not Thai in any form was stylish and very pleasant. Well worth the visit. PS: They often have very well priced vouchers on the daily deal sites ( eg: ours was $45 for 4 courses for 2 people.
