Sri Pinang, on Auckland's K'Road, has been standing proud on that spot for more than two decades - not a small feat in Auckland's ever-changing restaurant scene.
The secret to their success lies in the unbeatable combination of delicious Malaysian specialities (their chicken with plum sauce and the beef rendang are a must-try), fantastic prices, warm and welcoming service, and BYO at $1 per person. It's no wonder that this place is bustling with diners every day of the week! Booking is highly recommended, especially for weekend evenings.

There are lots of great things to say about Sri Pinang. Based in Karangahape Road, this restaurant serves authentic and affordable Malaysian food. Considered an Auckland classic by most locals, it’s a go-to for patrons who are going out on dates, special occasions, or just wanted to try something new. The decor is akin to that of an “old person’s house”, but apparently that just adds to its charm. Just imagine visiting a friend and sitting in their kitchen as they serve you homemade Malaysian cuisine. Roti curry, beef rendang, and laksa are popular choices among its followers. Book ahead of time especially when coming in with a large crowd for a more satisfying dining experience.
If you are looking for a great Malaysian Restaurant to dine at... Then Sri Pinang is the place!!! Went here last night with my partner and a couple of friends and the food is just amazing... The chicken and plum sauce is just so delicious and the roti curry is so yummy! The staff were always asking if we were ok and how our food was... We are already planning when we will dine here next...
I’ve spent a bit of time travelling in Malaysia in recent years and have fallen madly and deeply in love with the nation’s diverse culinary delights. But until this week, I had never been to Sri Pinang on K’Rd until a friend who has been eating here since was a teenager bundled me up and took me to experience their roti chicken curry (a steal at just $9) and their hainanese chicken. The dishes were succulent and filling. It’s a new regular lunch spot for me!
