Venturing into Kumeu was way easier than expected due to all the wonderful new motorways.. in fact it took less time to get here than if we were headed to say Remuera for dinner. We entered the restaurant and felt immediately at home. The open plan with views into the kitchen give it a true European feel and make for a delightful environment. We ordered the foie gras parfait to start, which was beautifully presented. Perhaps a little sweet for my palette but nevertheless overall a good start. My partner chose the venison & I the duck for our main event. I have to give a 9/10 and 10/10 respectively for these divine meals. Superb gastronomic (and visual) pleasures. Finally we had dessert... to be honest I was too full to eat another morsal but my partner was keen to see what we would be presented with, and again pure pleasure. I've heard this place described as the Wests best kept secret.. well it is in my opinion....I'm putting the word out.. eat, enjoy and do it regularly as menu is extensive and the specials sounded fabulous....
I have to agree with ThonyBuildersLtd on this one- really really pricey, but the food was good. Very small portions though- we went in a big group and were the only diners there (mid week so understandable). The menu seemed small (in comparison with other restaurants we have been to) and there was no variation in prices- all mains were $29 with the exception of the fish which was even more. Not a huge range to choose from and you would struggle if you were vegetarian (its a very meat focused menu). Hubby thought his lamb was great though and very nicely cooked and my father really liked his wild boar. My soup was good without being spectacular (but was a much cheaper $13 as was classed as a starter). We wanted to BYO a bottle of wine (a special) and while they would allow it, corkage was $5 per person. The 3 star rating I have given reflects the fact that although the food was nice enough, I did not think it was particularly worth the price and will not be going back.
Amazing food! The price is reflected in the quality of the food. I had the lamb - medium rare as they recommended. It was perfectly cooked, lovely and tender. I also recommend the lime creme brûlée and the celery sorbet - beautiful! This restaurant would be at home in the middle of Auckland City - Huapai residents are lucky to have this little gem!
