Thats where it stops... The location is great yes...and yes it is kid friendly with a sand pit out the back. The service was nice and friendly enough but unfortunately thats where it all ends. There was a table of about 7 of us and we all ordered hot drinks...well at least they were supposed to be hot. I had ordered a HOT chocolate and it came out luke warm. 5 out of 7 of us also ordered a different range of food as well and I have to say that it was average at best. I ordered the portobello w/ Chibbatta, Mesculin & Avocado with a side order of Bacon. That too also came out warm not hot like I prefer my food. The bacon was partially under cooked and the muchrooms werent exactly portobello mushrooms (baby portobellos maybe). Also they had been cooked in too much balsamic vinegar. Another thing that I found not very nice is that the toilets were right opposite the food prep and kitchen area with no door into the kitchen. Its not very good for higine, esp since the female toilets door was a slide door and was kept open the whole time (well when someone wasn't using it that is). Oh yeah and they had a cat inside the Cafe. Sure it looked cute and clean but Im sorry you dont have a cat inside a cafe/restaurant. If I wanted to eat with a cat I would have gone to a friends. Tips to the Cafe: make sure that the Hot drinks are in fact HOT. Food is cooked a little bit more and get a door into the kitchen from the back on so that it is kept well out of the toilet view.
This local is right in the heart of Ponsonby making it a convenient and easy place to meet people. They do delicious snacks such as muffins and slices and the meals are great too - I really enjoyed the seafood chowder. Some nights there is live music which adds something extra to your casual night out for dinner. There is also a cute local cat... as long as it doesn't come near my food!
If you sit outside this is pretty much a kid-friendly zone. If you sit inside, what's wrong with you!? Outside covered space inner city is hard to find. Inside's a bit too dark for my liking. The street side seats are good because you can watch the world go by. No matter where you are though, the coffee's good and I like the cooked breakfast options.
