David Liem of Greenland Bakery & Cafe knows a thing or two about pies.
Making around four hundred a day, its no wonder that his bakery, located in Botany Downs, was awarded the Supreme Winner at Bakel's New Zealand Pie Awards in 2013.
Be sure to stop by for a piece of this award winning pastry in a variety of fillings and flavours, and see for yourself just how deserving David and Greenland Bakery is of these prestigious accolades.
Located near the New World in Botany Town Centre, the vibe is more Hollywood than Little and Friday, but it's still worth a visit to try the award winning pies. I went for the supreme award winning mince & cheese pie, and the pastry was buttery and flaky, while the filling was well balanced and perfectly seasoned. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
Ahh... nothing like a pie to start a rainy and very moist Friday at a good bakery/cafe. The pie is perhaps one of the most "Kiwi' icons down this part of the world... delicious savory filling in a flakey pastry case. For this afternoon's lunch pleasure, got myself their gold award winning seafood pie (Bakels NZ pie awards), which has chunks of king salmon, prawns and vegetables in a creamy white sauce. A peach and cream cheese muffin with a cup of flat white rounds it out. Many of their other pies have also won awards as well, such as the classic mince and cheese, chicken bacon and mushroom, pork and kumura to name a few. So if you are in the area and in of a pie, give Greenland Bakery & Cafe a go with their range of award winning pies, and have a pick-me-up to start your day.
