The quality of goods on offer is much better than the average department store in NZ. While I am a die-hard Smith and Caughey fan, I come here for things like everyday beauty products, toys, hosiery, toys, and so on! Also they've always got some pretty cute and super-cheap le specs, which are great if your children love breaking/scratching all of your sunglasses, all the time....
NZ doesnt really have big department stores like overseas.. not many anyway but Farmers is as close as we will get. There are several departments of good quality every day products. I like to get basics like towels here and kitchen appliances are always good. The sales are usually excellent & well advertised.
Farmers has this image of being dowdy and where your parents go to shop. The upside of Farmers is it often has a wide range of clothing and home furnishings. It's a great place if you're hunting for some bargains, especially linens. Before you dismiss Farmers, go there to get an idea of what's a fair price. You might be surprised.
