"The last time that I visited Waiwera was on a school trip and I got a blood nose from the black hole. Regardless it was a good time. Since then Waiwera has been through a little bit of a transformation. Over the years it has morphed into more of a health spa. For OSH reasons only two of the slides remain. It may have lost a bit of the fun factor but as an adult it's still a relaxing day away from the big smoke."
"This is the place to be on a hot summers day. We make it a family ritual to spend at least one day every summer here. On a cold day the hot pools are a pleasure. What’s great is that its not too far from Auckland Central."

"What is not to love about a being able to go to what I think is Aucklands best foodie/farmers market and have your pooch babysat while you stroll around at your leisure trying out local delights "
Boundary Road, Woodhill, Waimauku
"Challenging for everyone and levels for everyone. One way to get over your fear of heights! Can’t show the kids you’re scared stiff. Totally recommend it"
Boundary Road, Woodhill Forest, Auckland
"If you can do all the jumps and challenges here you are either very skilled or have no fear at all!!"

"Excellent service, an awesome location and really very delicious food. I got the fish of the day on a salad niçoise and it was the most perfectly cooked salmon I have ever had in a restaurant (why, oh why, do chefs so often overcook salmon???). The man thing got a big breakfast and it was wonderful - a real feast of flavour."
Corner Saleyards & Puhoi Road, Puhoi, Auckland
"Just off the state highway this is a stop worth making. Old and classic tavern style pub with massive beer garden. Perfect to break the road trip and a surprise spot for a lunch date, great old fashioned fare at decent pricing."

""Water slides, pools, spa , bbq areas, icecream & coffee. Another FUN full day out for the whole famz""
"Headed to Parakai with some friends after deciding we were in the mood for a change (we are Palm Springs loyalists). Steep cover charge ($20 + $4 locker + $5 for my share of $15 for a gas bottle for the BBQ) but worthwhile, we had an excellent time. The slides are thrilling, in a way that slides mostly aren't in this OSH-approved era we live in. The open air hot pool is righteous too. I have a few bumps and bruises today but I had a fabulous time."
2 Matakana Valley Road, Matakana, Auckland 0985
"Matakana Cinema has become quite the hive in recent years, and this 3-cinema complex screens a range of films to suit all ages and tastes. End up here when you're worn out from traipsing 'round the local weekend market or hitting the Pakiri surf."

"Puhoi Valley Cheese Co is such a lovely country drive and so easy to get to. We shared a plowman's platter and a cheese platter.. Yummy breads, cheeses, pate, and chutneys. The setting is lovely, the food great and after lunch we went for the wee walk around the lake. The returned to buy a Puhoi ice cream. After all that we stocked up on our fav cheeses ( free samples are plentiful), the 6 year old Parmesan and a brie. Great spot, good food, good service. A fab Sunday lunch spot!"
"I have tasted some great cheese from here and heard great reviews. Love to go here on my way north!"
155 Parkhurst Road, Parakai, Auckland
"I love this place. The hot pools are hot and relaxing and wonderful of course, but what makes this place stand out is when you enter the lobby and you're transported to another era. It's like the owners stopped caring in 1978, in a good way."
48 Tongue Farm Road, Matakana

"Love this place! Gorgeous pottery, and some true Kiwiana pieces! Cafe is a nice little rest stop- all in all a very relaxing experience and we enjoyed every minute! "
" Join the many others who frequent Morris & James to have a tasty snack in their cafe. We certainly have. It's a really lovely setting and the food's pretty good too. While you're there have a browse around all the wonderful pottery. Definitely not on the cheap side, but what gorgeous stuff!"
" Had never been he and family took us to have a look when we were in Matakana. What a cool place. Great pots and sculptures beautifully coloured and designed. Somethings are seriously huge. Having children in this place was rather scary! There are great prices and seconds avalible which still look great. One of our favourate features was the playground out the front! what great balancing beams and all wooden and well made with lots of places to explore and challenges a fun new adventure."
76 Green Road, Parakai, Auckland
"Had the most amazing skydive staff were amazing .. friendly and safety was number 1 priority would definatly go back again the veiws were fabulous "
2 Matakana Valley Road, Matakana, Auckland
"Sitting right beside the river eating Bluff oysters with a little lemon and a dash of hot sauce. Perfect! And that was just the first course."
" We had relatives up from the South Island so took them up to Matakana for the day and ended up here for lunch. Its not very often we get a whole group of people satisfied with their meals. Everyone enjoyed their food and would definately reccommend. I didnt give it 5 stars because like many restaurants in NZ, they still need to work on their service a bit. It was still very good service but I would like to see them go that extra step to make them even better!"
