"The last time that I visited Waiwera was on a school trip and I got a blood nose from the black hole. Regardless it was a good time. Since then Waiwera has been through a little bit of a transformation. Over the years it has morphed into more of a health spa. For OSH reasons only two of the slides remain. It may have lost a bit of the fun factor but as an adult it's still a relaxing day away from the big smoke."
"This is the place to be on a hot summers day. We make it a family ritual to spend at least one day every summer here. On a cold day the hot pools are a pleasure. What’s great is that its not too far from Auckland Central."
Corner Saleyards & Puhoi Road, Puhoi, Auckland
"Just off the state highway this is a stop worth making. Old and classic tavern style pub with massive beer garden. Perfect to break the road trip and a surprise spot for a lunch date, great old fashioned fare at decent pricing."

"Love this place! Gorgeous pottery, and some true Kiwiana pieces! Cafe is a nice little rest stop- all in all a very relaxing experience and we enjoyed every minute! "
" Join the many others who frequent Morris & James to have a tasty snack in their cafe. We certainly have. It's a really lovely setting and the food's pretty good too. While you're there have a browse around all the wonderful pottery. Definitely not on the cheap side, but what gorgeous stuff!"
" Had never been he and family took us to have a look when we were in Matakana. What a cool place. Great pots and sculptures beautifully coloured and designed. Somethings are seriously huge. Having children in this place was rather scary! There are great prices and seconds avalible which still look great. One of our favourate features was the playground out the front! what great balancing beams and all wooden and well made with lots of places to explore and challenges a fun new adventure."

" I took a my best friend to Pakiri Beach Treks last month because a friend recommended them - WOW!!!!! I have to say I have done many horse treks but the location, well-trained horses and excellent guides made this an incredible day, how stunning is the West Coast? I will be buying this as a present for my sister's birthday in October, I don't get to spend a lot of time in NZ these days and I have to say - I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday in NZ. Great value for money too. Thanks to the fantastic girls who took such good care of us! "
" Had a great weekend up in Matakana and went on a one hour horse ride with this company along the stunning Pakiri beach. The ride was a fair price and the staff were very welcoming. We were kitted out with hats, and boots if we wanted them, and matched to our steeds based on ability. I was a beginner really having only rode a few times previously in my life but we were all reminded of how to command the horse via the reins to where we wanted them to go before leaving.. My horse behaved well, apart from scoffing grass when we stood still on the dunes. My friend was more experienced so partway through the trek they took her off to do a short canter which we watched as they passed by us later on. We both had a brilliant time. The scenery was beautiful and the trek, whilst their shortest, still managed to cover forest, beach and dunes. There is a little cafe on site so you can eat/drink before or after your ride. They also have some cabins available for rent in different locations nearby. We had the riverside cabins to ourselves for the night. They were the backpacker option so we quite basic but fine for the night. Our only issue was a problem with the water which we discovered on our return from the cinema that night did not appear to be working. Whilst we could not get any help that night, they did refund us half of our stay the next day. It was just a shame we had to follow up the problem, despite reporting it the night before via phone and speaking to someone. Luckily the water was on by the morning so we could get breakfast made in the kitchen and a nice hot shower before we left."

"Very nicely presented inside and out and has a sophisticated but old-school feel about it. I really liked it."
19 Burne Road, RD4, Waitoki, Auckland 0794
"WOW! This is an amazing place to visit, ducks honking, dogs barking, birds flying around your ears in the giant barn/shop. Nicole and her dad offer a wide range of animal product from chicken food, animal supplements, Pigeon mixers, to nuts in a shell for parrott, not too mention the cages, toys, bird feeders, animal herbs and horse shampoos. Worth a visit and oh did I say they deliver once a week & if your order is over $40 its FREE!"

"These guys hold nothing back when it comes to good food! Great meals, great pricing and an awesome atmosphere. Kudos to the staff who always have smiles on their faces!"
" The night life of Warkworth starts and ends at the bridge house. also known as the "bridgie" . This lovely joint serves some wicked tasting food but is mainly around for its patrons and its fine array of beer. also caters for social events where you can hire out the back 1/4 of the pub which contains a jukebox, pool table and darts. Great place to have any party. Great staff and owner. Highly recommend!"

" The days the boys stayed it was actually sunny , luved the little cabins .Went to the beacha nd also swam in the river not far from the hot pools . Hary and the boys loved sliding down the water slide then..... went home to Vulcan Lane to sleep off the busy days away ,now dreaming of the sunny days of summer . Mind you the hot pools good all year round ."
Goat Island Marine Reserve, Leigh, Auckland 0985
"very good kitchen and cabins , nice shower complex . But some times the fact that the camping ground is right next ot a hot spot any short falls in facilities vanish . Particularly when the camp ground is right next to one of the best marine reserves and one of the most accessible reserves in New Zealand . I do feel though that camp grounds could have signs advising against diving beyond to depths beond ones capabilities in the marine reserve . Its one of the things I think of constantly when I see tourists heading off for a days diving when I stay at the camping ground . Good one Goat Island . Camping and accomodation ."
" A group of us stayed here in Kits cabin and we had a blast. The staff were so friendly, the facilities were most often clean and the kitchens were fully equipped so we didn't need to take anything with us for that reason. I also particularly like the open fire where you can sit around with dinner and sing songs together. Fun all around! "
" What a fantastic friendly camp. The campground is beautiful and the beach is brilliant for kids. I do have a gripe however, the amenities block. It needs a lot of work. Showers are well and truely in need of repair in the ladies. The pressure was non existant and i couldn't even wash the soap oout of my hair. I'd pay to have a better shower. Also no where to really wash the kids as the shower cubicles are tiny it's hard to move about in there. Other than that, fantastic. And we'll be back, but with a solar shower :)"
