Top five coffee fixes
- 127RAD CafeMt EdenRAD, that you are! The baristas here have got me through many a morning/afternoon boosting up my caffeine intake. RAD was a welcomed new addition to Mt Eden’s cafes earlier this year and it has continued to be a popular place for Mt Eden locals. The coffee never fails, RAD uses Wellington’s Flight coffee producing a beautiful strong but smooth coffee whether it be a flat white or a long black. Everything about RAD is hip, from the table numbers made out of lego, to the denim aprons worn by the staff, to the rose and green tea flavoured water and of course the staff are some of the friendliest you’ll ever have serve you!
- 214Eighthirty Coffee RoastersNewtonEight Thirty is a place for coffee lovers or coffee addicts like myself. The coffee is not just good, it’s great. There is no other way to start your day than with a good coffee and Eight Thirty does not disappoint. "this may just fix everything" is printed on the takeaway cups and I can assure you, their coffee does fix just about everything. I’ve only ever quickly grabbed a coffee from Eight Thirty but I’m keen to return and sit watching the bustling K’Rd go by.
- 35Chuffed CafeAuckland CentralGrabbing a coffee at Chuffed became something of a habit whilst I was studying in the city. The food is one thing to rave about with an ever changing and exciting menu, but the coffee is something else. Hidden off busy High St, their special blend of coffee is strong with a kick - just how I like it! It’s the perfect place to grab a coffee on the run or to escape the busyness of the city sitting in their lovely courtyard out the back. In the winter they have the fire going and offer you a wooly blanket to keep you snuggly.
- 41Sprout CafeMount AlbertSprout was a lucky find one rainy Monday afternoon with a couple of friends and I needing a coffee fix fast. We decided to give Sprout a go and we weren’t disappointed. I opted for my usual trim flat white and seeing they used coffee lab beans I knew I was in for a treat. Located in what used to be a petrol station, the cafe is brimming with big industrial tables and a couple of comfy soffas - ideal for a caffeine fix or a sit down lunch. Their menu doesn’t offer your standard cafe food with plenty of exciting dishes I’m keen to try.
- 529Zus & ZoHerne BayZus & Zo know how to make good coffee. I recently stopped in for a catch up with a couple of friends for lunch and of course coffee. Always a friendly atmosphere, I instantly felt welcome and at home, with the smell of fresh coffee and food from the kitchen. I had the salmon rosti which was brimming with flavour and included asparagus so I was one happy customer. It took a lot of will-power to resist the tempting sweet treats which are on display in the middle counter.
