School Holiday Programmes
- 171SnowplanetSilverdaleGreat chance to get your kids on the snow and try it out. For kids who can already ski it is a fun time. Dress up really warm as it is very very cold. They have morning and afternoon sessions in the school holidays. They take all school age kids and then 5-16 years to learn and progress in the separated into groups depending on their age, skill level and choice of skiing (from 5 years old) or snowboarding (from 8 years old) and then offer them tuition.
- 23Well priced horse riding camp in the Auckland region. It is a great place for kids to learn to ride and immerse themselves in thing equestrian and other outdoor activities. There is bible study/morals training every day but it is not over the top. The staff are very nice and the kids liked the food. The older kids help the younger ones.
- 32Grey Lynn Community CentreGrey LynnExcellent kids school holiday programme that is not too expensive. 9 - 5 for the working parent. It is worth checking out your local community centre to see what they do in school holidays. The rest of the time there are lots of interesting classes happening. Good rooms to hire if you need a venue for anything from a meeting to a birthday party.

Have a staycation this weekend
- 114Hotel DeBrettAuckland CentralWe stayed and made it a base to catch up with some friends in Auckland CBD. We stayed on Sunday night and saw the lovely Caitlin Smith singing jazz (happens every Sunday). We had dinner as well. The dining room is a beautiful atrium. A little oasis in the middle of Auckland. As we were staying we were able to use the cosy Art Deco Housebar giving a special treat to our friends as only people staying can use it. I noticed in the afternoon there is a High Tea with champagne (!) Saturday and Sunday from 3 - 5pm. Looks something nice for another winter visit. The rooms are stylish and cool with a modern Art Deco style.
- 23Sofitel Auckland Viaduct HarbourAuckland CentralBeautiful hotel to go for a meal or to stay for a treat. Great place to send your out of town friends or stay yourself to enjoy a first class, international standard hotel in Auckland. It is discreet, private and beautiful The room we had was large and spacious. Tastefully decorated. Glorious bathroom.
- 314The Oyster InnOneroaYou want glamour, you want fun, you want style, you something special to get you out of your Auckland routine. You want close, so go to Waiheke. But not for a hippie experience. Andrew Glenn and Jonathan Rutherford-Best are international New Zealanders who have come back after the Big Life Overseas and created this fun spot on Waiheke. The rooms are minimalist. Let’s call them bach style. The food is fine. But if you want to have fun, drink some champagne, eat some oysters, have a few laughs with some pals and a fun weekend while being spoilt with great service this is the spot.
- 44Peace & Plenty InnDevonportTruth told, I have not stayed but really do want to stay at Peace and Plenty! Had some friends up form Wellington who raved about this place. I did though meet them for afternoon tea which was lovely and had a peek at the room which was gorgeous, and have obviously been put together with a great deal of care. My friends were taken with extra touches like chocolates, a lavender bag on the pillow, gourmet biscuits beside the coffee, and sherry and port above the fireplace.
- 536Cordis, Auckland by Langham Hospitality GroupAuckland CentralI love this hotel and its old world glamour. On arrival the door man is charming. Everybody we met there was polite and lovely to deal with and made you feel special. The bedrooms are quiet and luxurious and once you get used to it, the ‘turn down service’ is rather nice. The buffet in the morning is divine. Make sure you go there hungry as there is so much choice.

A Perfect Funeral - Auckland
- 12State Of Grace LimitedNew LynnIf you are looking for an elegant, beautiful funerals. Intimate care of the living and those who have passed. State of Grace are a bunch of wonderful women who know how to care, celebrate and grieve for those who have died.
- 22Return to Sender Caskets LimitedNew LynnModern, New Zealand coffins that are eco friendly. Not one of those nasty PDF caskets. Greg Holdsworth, returned suddenly to New Zealand upon the death of his fatherin-law. Having returned to Auckland Greg and his wife, Leanne, came to grips with the body laid to rest in a coffin in the family home then noticed something just wasn’t right. While standing by the coffin Greg noticed the ‘metal’ handles weren’t cold and discovered they were, in fact, plastic made to look like metal. On closer inspection he discovered that the coffin wasn’t what it seemed either, it was MDF with a plastic woodgrain applied to the outside. Even the lining material was artificial. If the environmental aspects of this discovery wasn’t enough he was struck with a feeling that the values of the coffin in no way matched the values of the man. The coffin in the photo is from Return to Sender. Beautiful
