During Saturdays, they cook Filipino BBQ street food which tastes very authentic.

Being originally from Manila, there are times when I would miss Filipino cuisine. From kare-kare to crispy pata, or even the simplest breakfast dish called Tapsilog (Tapa beef, fried garlic rice, egg), I will always seek for a restaurant that serves the authentic flavor.  This is what Turo Turo has to offer - authentic Filipino food!  Eating at this restaurant makes me reminisce of what was it like to eat at home.

Would like to mention that they have an awesome diner community over at Facebook. (http://www.facebook.com/TuroTuroPhilippineCafe)

*Disclosure - I'm personal friends with the owners I have come to love Philippino food after trying the Lomi soup at Turo Turo. Don't be afraid of the exotic food options they do have, but bring your sense of adventure and you will be satisfied. They have fish and chips too and Joyful Chicken if you just feel like having something bog standard. Located behind McDonalds and the NZ Post shop, just follow the black sign on Apirana Ave and it's around the corner from NZ Post shop.  Follow the restaurant on Facebook and Twitter (@turoturonz) for weekly dining specials and events. This restaurant has become quite the hub for all things Philippino.  Check it out.

Welcoming atmosphere.

Yum!

I have many Fillipino friends who are all passionate about their food and they recommend we try Turo Turo. So off we set to GI to find out for ourselves. Its a small cafe but welcoming and there is ample parking near by. We are guided to our seats by a friendly girl who explains the menu to us. The menu makes interesting reading with the variety of the food on offer, not sure if I am quite ready to try the Dinugan or translated "Pork Intestine in Blood Stew"! Instead I settle for Sisig a spicy pork meal whilst hubby had the Bistek Tagaolg. We don't have to wait long before the meals are served, both were excellent choices as they tasted delicious. We'd also ordered desserts hubby's was the Halo-Halo a chilled dessert of Baby Coconut, ube, sweet beans, shaved ice and jelly, I opted for the Graham Cake. Expecting to get a slice of Graham cake, a whole cake was served up. After my main course there was no room for my dessert so we took the Graham cake home in  a doggie bag. I am so glad we did it was absolutely delicious, we will definitely go back again.
