I have been coming here for many many years, at first with my family and more recently with my partner with good reason. Their food is so delicious I have a huge amount of trouble deciding every time I go. Generally I always have to have at least an entree (if not a main) of calamari as it is cooked superbly every time, and some of their chocolate cheesecake. However, when I have had any other thing on the menu i have found it equally as delish! We went here most recently with a large group last weekend at my suggestion and I noted that of the 10 of us, we all had very clean plates by the end! Also very good service.
We are long-term patrons, having been dining there for twenty years. The service has always been impecable and the food is consistently good. I have a pasta favourite which I can't go past its so good. The recent refurbishments are elegant but still comfortable. I never tire of dining with a view over the Edwardian shop fronts with attendent seagulls and their nests in view! Real seaside dining!
Portofino Bar and Restaurant in Devonport is not affiliated with the chain of Portofino's you will find in other locations. It is located off the beaten path, but it is always busy with the locals and a few lucky tourists who get lost. If you're in the mood for some classic Italian dishes take the plunge and bring your map to find this place. They offer a great wine list but also welcome BYO.
Devonport’s Portofino is a bit of a mission to find. You have to head down an alleyway off Victoria Road, turn the corner and then head up a couple of flights of stairs to get to the restaurant. t’s well worth it though as the food is marvellous with attentive well mannered staff. I’m a massive fan of the Spaghetti Arrabiata with a salad on the side. If you’re over on the Shore and have a hankering for Italian, this is the place to come to! Highly recommended!
