New Flavour Restaurant is northern Chinese food big on portions and yes, on flavour. Food is fresh and at pocket change prices with minimal service and a very casual atmosphere. It’s also open extremely late – if you’re hungry at 1 AM and looking for a snack, come here.

Chinese tea is refilled continuously for free. A spicy chilli oil as well as soy sauce and black vinegar are plentiful for dumpling dipping according to your taste.

New Flavour is best in a group of four or more, with plates like the garlicky eggplant or deep-fried pork belly shared between you on the Lazy Susan.

Ok! I think I just might... :)

Headed here for a quick dinner fix after working late folloeing a glowing recommendation from my flatmate. Forgot the name on route so called him to check and a lady on the street overheard my conversation and couldn't help but direct me to, what is obviously one of her favourite haunts too. As I wandered off in the direction she pointed she called after me...'have the dumplings'. This seems to be the common recommendation, so I did. They were delicious and very reasonably at about $9 and I had leftovers for lunch the next day! Definitely heading back soon to try the rest of the menu and I really must remember to get off the bus early when heading back from a night out in town to enjoy the early morning opening hours they offer for those with munchies.

Such a neat little place. The hand pulled noodles are fantastic, make a huge change from the regular fried noodles you get elsewhere on this strip. Recommend many of the appetizers too, such as kelp salad and pickled peanuts. Crispy fried pork strips were delicious - not dry at all, like your good old sweet and sour pork can be. Free Chinese tea, highchair available, yay. Open very late for night owls.

Apparently the best dumplings…… I’m excited And not for individual sale fizzy cans.

This beats the freaking pants off any other Chinese Restaurant in Auckland. The dumplings are the business and it’s super cheap to boot.

Really execellent. Dumplings, spring onion pancakes, squid, sweet and sour pork, green tea at 4am. A good way to get rid of the worst of your earlier excesses

I usually roll into New Flavour at about 3am after a night out. It's perfect. The food is cheap, and it comes out quickly and in massive portions. I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but they have a bunch of really yum vegan and vegetarian dishes, so it's totally safe to take your fussy friends. Another bonus is it's BYO, and the staff don't seem to give a toss what you bring in. I like to take in japanese beer from the liquor shop down the road, it goes a treat!

There are so many delicious Chinese restaurants in Balmoral but many of them are not vege friendly. New Flavour has an amazing selection of freshly made dumplings and vege dishes which would satisfy any vegetable lover.  For the meaty fans, the beef and potato casserole which could easily feed two people. This is my favourite!  New Flavour gets super busy so sometimes it is hard to get a table. But they are open to about 4am so you'll squeeze in at some time.

New Flavour is establishing itself as a Balmoral icon. The dumplings are of course great - but that's not all. The cucumber and tofu salad is amazing and, if you're feeling adventurous, the soft fried milk as an, um, memorable desert.

I came here following the review in the Herald and was SO impressed by the food. Be a little patient with the staff as customer service is not their strong point, but the meals are worth it. The dumplings were to die for, freshly made in store (you can see a lady making them), with a variety of different flavours to choose from. And you get 20 for $8! We also had the chilli&cumin squid and the sweet&sour pork strips which were amazing. I will definitely be making this place a regular!
