A few months ago I was trying to find somewhere special to take my partner for our two year anniversary. I'm so stoked I chose Clooney - We've never had a meal like it. The food not only tasted amazing but looked like pieces of fine art and the waiters were so attentive and gracious I felt like I was royalty. The place itself is also beautiful with soft lighting and dark leather booths surrounded by thin string veils which make you feel like you're alone in the restaurant. If you're after a unique and exciting culinary experience give Clooney try - best meal I've ever had.
I've been a fan of everything Tony Stewart has done for the Auckland restaurant scene for many years from the creation of lounge bar Match through to the awesome restaurant hot spot that is Clooney. This is the place to come for the perfect date night or, if you're a real foodie, they've just launched an incredible seven-course degustation menu that is a true treat and a chance to enjoy serious special occasion dining from amazing chef Des Harris. I love Clooney because it reminds me of one of the great fine dining restaurants of the world and every mouthful is an experience. It's the definition of a treat!
Clooney has an excellent restaurant and a great cocktail bar. If you don’t feel like the degustation but you’d like a bit of luxury pop in for a cocktail or 2. The bar staff are excellent and the cocktail list is extensive and everything I’ve tried was delicious. A stand out cocktail was a a champage one with a whipped lemon merinque egg white topping that was as much a dessert as a cocktail.
Being degustation fiends, we thought it was time to try Clooney. The cab pulled up and we wondered about this dark warehouse and what it contained within. Our welcome was wonderfully friendly and we were shown to our table, Loving the a circular leather sofa style in little beaded alcoves. The waiters appeared silently from through the beads to talk us through our 7 course degustation meal. Explosions of colour, texture and taste is what comes to mind. Each course more unusual than the last. We were mildly concerned that our usual degustation experience was 9 courses and this being only 7 that we may end up not as satisfied however by the 4th course i knew they were far richer and slightly bigger than what we were used to which totally allayed all concerns. In fact I truly struggled past course 5. Exquisite visually, sublime tastes and flavours made this a fabulous experience in a modern, sexy environment. We will be back... many times.
