Catroux Cafe in Westmere is always abuzz with locals for a reason - it’s always cosy inside, the coffee is top notch and the brunch never disappoints. They may not have the most eclectic offering in town but the fare is always fresh and tasty and served with many a smile. The pink lamingtons in the cabinet are a perfect after-brunch sweet treat to go, and the coffee is always strong and hot to boot. A definite fave if ever there was one!
I haven't tried the meals at Catroux but they look amazing, and what I have had of their snacks I've thoroughly enjoyed. I guess half the weird appeal of lamingtons is that you expect t to be a bit dry and not that good - but, hey! it's a lamington! This fresh-made one has changed my mind on that. Gets a bit crowded here in weekends, so better to hit this spot during the week if you can.
I arrived at breakfast late and everyone else had eaten. Two of my friends were a little perturbed due to the presence of unwanted hair in their food. After having a word to the waitress the issue was disolved and they were supplied with complimentary coffees. The manner in which the waitress dealt with it was extremely professional and humorous. Great work. On the other hand I had a flat white which was the tasty, kick start I needed for the day.
Anytime I go to Catroux I know my taste buds will be going on an adventure. Catroux have the most amazing flavour combinations ( the kumara roastie with charizzo, feta cheese, beetroot and a poached egg sent my mind spinning for weeks). I took my mother there for Mothers Day and hooked her onto their perfect coffee's too. Catroux is a dream!
Catroux in Westmere have some of Auckland's best cafe fare in my book. Whether you're after a interesting salad, hearty breakfast or a little something tasty - like this 'mac and cheese' parcel - Catroux have it covered, and excellent coffee too. I'm yet to try one of their sweet treats but they look beautiful, and I can't believe they'd taste anything but.
Westmere cafe Catroux not only has a great blackboard selection and amazing cabinet food, but also one of the best kid’s brunch menus in town. All offerings are priced at six dollars and there is always something yum to choose from like the traditional boiled egg and soldier combo and yummy French toast with bacon and maple syrup. The sandpit is an added bonus!
At first glance I thought 'sterile' but there after sitting down and absorbing Catroux cafes bright atmosphere you discover it's character. I read somewhere that it's named after french model Betty Catroux and it does have a very modern french vibe. Aside from the appearances, the food... (I can't remember what my meal was called but it was that delicious german? rye bread with salmon, avo and the best pickled beetroot I have ever eaten - it was summer on a plate!) I can not believe this cafe is a recent discovery for me. Amazing. Love.
