This is an amazing little cinema, they feature all the best movies with coffees, food and bar services available, the seats are comfy and the leg room is plentiful.

When you go to the movies these days, it's like you're watching a blueray or something off somebody's USB stick projected on a screen. I was delighted to learn that Balmoral's Capital cinema only plays films on 35mm FILM. It's a beautiful old building which has been tastefully renovated. The seats are huge and comfortable. They sell Movenpick icecream cones for $4 each. A very classy cinema!

The Capitol is a great little in cinema in what is probably my favourite part of Auckland. I would, however, like the see them be a little more adventurous with the films the bring in. Although fairly obviously they avoid most of the blockbusters, they still tend to mostly go for fairly conservative romantic comedies. I understand it's tough going to for a semi-independent cinema to survive so I understand their caution - I just wish they screened a few more films I wanted to see.

It's a lovely treat going to the movies, but going to The Capitol means you will be in beautiful surrounds also. There's a wee bar and sofas if you have time to grab a glass of wine or an icecream beforehand. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The cinema's Dominion-Rd location means you won't be forking out for parking. They have cheap tuesdays and special deals for seniors and beneficiaries.

I don't know much about this place, whether it's always been a cinema and has been recently restored, or whether it's a new fit-out, but it rules. Great vintage decor, friendly service, good indie films, and delicious beers. The seats were comfortable and spacious, which was nice. Recommended.

A charming cinema on Dominion Road, we enjoyed a movie there for the first time this week. We're looking forward to going back for more!

I was so excited when I heard the people behind the Lido were reopening the Capitol. Thank goodness it didn't go the way of most independent cinemas in Auckland over the years and get demolished. I used to go when I was young and it was Charlie Greys and it's still got that bohemian vibe. And even better - it's just down the road.

Sick of going to your large chained Cinema and want a cinema experience that's more intimate and memorable? Look no further than Capital Cinema. They even give you little tickets which the cinema usher will punch a hole in. Rialto used to have the art cinema vibe but as of late it's gotten very commercial - so hence me and my partner were really glad to have discovered Capitol Cinema on Dominion Road.

Going to the Capitol to watch a movie is getting the cinema experience the way it used to be. They only show a few films at a time so you will need to make sure they're showing something you want to see but believe me it is much nicer coming here than any of the big cinemas. Entering you feel almost a sense of excitement and the classic decor makes you feel that this is something special. The seats are big and comfy and you can purchase beer, wine and gourmet ice-cream to take in with you - no need to pay the extra for gold class here.
