When you need a fresh fix, these places have you sorted with some of the best salads in town.

Ripe Delicatessen reviewed by Sarah I.

This raw energy salad is more or less famous in foodie circles. Who would've thought raw beetroot and carrot could taste so good?! You can even find the recipe on Ripe's website, although we recommend a visit to the Grey Lynn deli, so you can partake in some of their other tasty offerings too.

Bambina Cafe Ponsonby reviewed by Sarah I.

Salad may sound like a weird option for breakfast, but on those days when you need something fresh - but still want those eggs - a breakfast salad is the way to go. Bambina do a great one (pictured), as do Rosehip cafe.

New Flavour Restaurant reviewed by Sarah I.

New Flavour has become somewhat of a Mecca for dumpling lovers in recent times, but those in the know will tell you the eatery's tofu cucumber salad is the dish that keeps them loyal. Ribbons of tofu and cucumber, marinated in some sort of soy, chilli-flecked goodness. OMG.

Revive Fort Street reviewed by Sarah I.

Lunch on the run doesn't have to leave you feeling gross. Serving up an interesting variety of healthy, delicious salads daily at both their Fort and Lorne St locales, Revive hit the mark when you need a quick lunch but can't do another sandwich or pie. They offer a range of hot options too, including soup.

Santos Cafe reviewed by Sarah I.

Haloumi is pretty much the food of the cheese gods when it's done right, and the haloumi in this salad from Ponsonby institution Santos (1/2 size $13; full $17) was grilled to perfection. Team it up with an Amazon juice (cucumber, apple, mint and ginger; $6.50) and a sit-down in their newly refurbished courtyard and you'll leave feeling fighting fit.

Sheinkin Cafe reviewed by Sarah I.

I've already mentioned Sheinkin in my list of Auckland cafés with wifi, but they belong on this one too. This beetroot salad was truly awesome, but Sheinkin have the widest range of made-to-order salads I've seen, all of which deserve a try.
