Eastern coastal walkway proves popular

Posted by <<Expired>>

A impressive new walkway is now receiving popular approval as more and more locals take advantage of a special coastal connection between Beachlands and Maraetai.

The walkway, which runs through Leigh Auton Reserve, is now regularly used by both walkers and cycle riders keen to absorb a unique coastal experience.

The reserve has outstanding views and, from the time of its establishment over a year ago, was recognised as place with regional significance.

The walkway connects the Beachlands Maraetai communities and has been well enginered to fit its environs.

It includes a footbridge which can be seen to right of the picture and the pathway meanders along the coast, high above the water in some areas but, in other spots, close to the sea.

This is an easy walk (or ride) for families and there are ample picnic spots to enjoy along the way.

The reserve itself was named after Manukau City's last chief executive officer who clocked up over 32 years of service with the council.

The newly created area links with an earlier walkway from Te Puru Bride to the start of Second View Avenue. This section has been named Kelly's Walk in recognition of the contribution made by the Kelly family over many years.
