Old Waiheke visitor kiosk up for grabs

Posted by <<Expired>>

The old Visitor Information Centre Kiosk at Artworks on Waiheke Island could be up for grabs to a local community group. The potential new owners will have to be prepared to bear the full cost of the relocation.

In a report to the Waiheke local board, the estimated costs of removing the building is set at $12,000 plus any additional work that may have to be done to make power cables that run across the entrance to Artworks safe. There will also be the cost of a resource consent for relocation, which will be $2000.

The old information kiosk was originally used as the Harbour Edge Project Office in QEII square. It was bought by North Shore Ferries (Fullers) in 1993 for $15,000 and relocated to Artworks until the visitor information service was taken over by Tourism Auckland (now ATEED).

The building is currently tenated by Upcycle on a short-term arrangement. The owners of Upcycle are aware that they could be ask to vacate with one month’s notice.

The local board and Waiheke library project management team has said that the building will need to be relocated by May 1. The council has no plans for the building as there is no budget allocated for it. For more information about the old information kiosk, contact the Waiheke local board.
