"Commonly known as ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world), these distinctive colour woodblock prints are among the most popular of all Japanese works of art. The carefully composed images reveal the fleeting beauty and refined pleasures of Japanese society in the last century of the Edo Period (1603-1868) when that country was largely closed to the outside world. Comprising six themes from the repertoire of Japanese graphic artists, this exhibition explores images of tranquil landscapes and fierce battles, skillful actors and renowned beauties. From the natural world to the contrived splendour of the Yoshiwara pleasure-district, each print reveals an aspect of the culture of a lost world. 10 May - 30 September 2014 Mezzanine level corridor - free entry"

"I first found out about the Depot through my very first Auckland's taste festival experience. As a true kiwi girl from the far north I am a seafood lover from way back with a big love of food. I stumbled across the Depot tent at the festival and the first thing I gravitated towards was the delicious and amazing oysters! Amazingly fresh with a tangy it took me back to the days of going and picking them with my dad from our local wharf as a kid. Needless to say I used most of my crowns(coupons to purchase food and drinks) on the Depot tent I was addicted. After that fish sliders, Warahou tortilla’s I was in Heaven. I have been to a lot of restaurants in Auckland city but the Depot for me is the ultimate dinner it has the most amazing food and not just that it has great chefs and service also great selection of beer and wine and even if you are not a seafood lover Al brown and his crew have made a menu to satisfy all so If I was you I would book a table and try it out I promise you will not be disappointing."

"Sal’s pizza is consistently delicious store to store, but Commerce St was the first and the best. The pizza is delicious of course, but the pepperoni wheels are what I keep coming back for. They are seriously incredible and talking about them is making me hungry. The garlic knots are also notable, and very affordable. If you somehow haven’t ever eaten at Sal’s, I recommend rectifying that asap."

"Best gelato maker in town! I had cocoa sorbet and caramel popcorn. Both divine and presented like a work of art."
"To make the wait for your movie a whole lot sweeter, grab a cone of award-winning gelato from Giapo. This innovative little gelateria churns out beautiful gourmet flavours every day for their insatiable crowd of fans. Ice cream as art."
"If you find yourself in Queen Street, Auckland there is one place you must go. Giapo. Each ice cream is a small work of art. Beautiful to look at, so much care and attention. Every time I go there is another new flavour. Giapo is an artisan and a craftsman who is always pushing the envelope trying new things. So once you go there once you will find yourself going again and again."

"In my opinion, despite its popular outdoor area Prego Restaurant is the perfect spot for dining come winter on Ponsonby Road. As well as having a collection of blankets for those still insisting on dining al fresco, they have the heartiest lasagne in town as well as two risotto offerings and lashings of stellar red wine options to wash it all down. This doesn’t even include their legendary pizza, which has fans all over the world. A legend for a reason, with fare that keeps them coming back for more."
"Prego’s pie certainly takes the crown for the most prestigious pie in the ranks, being nearly ten times as pricey as a small Muzza’s pie. Putting that aside, with Prego, you are paying for the experience - and the quality of both ingredients and location. Baked to order in flakey pastry, this lord among pies is served on potato mash with a port wine jus and promises to take your pie eating to a whole new level of sophistication. Fillings change regularly, so I suggest you save your pocket change and head there with an open mind and an empty stomach in anticipation of what your pie destiny may serve you."
