About this policy
This policy sets out the terms that apply when you participate in our consumer rewards scheme. In this policy:
“dashboard” means the part of our website where you find a record of all your membership activity and preference settings.
“digital product” means our online local information service for connecting consumers with local businesses, events and services in local areas across New Zealand, which can be accessed through our website or mobile phone applications and through social media such as Facebook and Twitter
“leaderboard” means the page of our website listing super reviewers and reputation token status
"Localist Store" means the part of our website found at www.localist.co.nz/store where businesses and consumers can review available rewards and consumers can request rewards;
“super reviewer” means a consumer with a tally ranked in the top 1% of consumer rewards scheme members
"supplier" means a person or company who has agreed to supply a reward under the consumer rewards scheme
“tally” means the total number of reward tokens or reputation tokens respectively
a “token” means a unit earned by a consumer in accordance with these terms
“we” means Localist Limited
“website” means our website www.localist.co.nz
“you” means the consumer or business using or interacting with our website and digital product
Our consumer rewards scheme
Once you have registered with us online you may earn tokens for activities on our digital product, such as reviewing a business, under our consumer rewards scheme. You don't have to pay anything to be part of the consumer rewards scheme!
We set the business rules and parameters of our consumer rewards scheme at our sole discretion and may change them from time to time. This means that we determine (in our sole discretion) how many tokens can be earned for different contributions. From time to time we may change the type of contributions that earn tokens and the number of tokens each contribution earns.
Your tokens serve two purposes:
- A tally which can be redeemed for rewards from suppliers and will fluctuate as you earn or redeem them for rewards. This tally of reward tokens is not publicly displayed and is confidential to you.
- A tally contributing to your reputation on the site, which is not impacted by redeeming rewards. This tally of reputation tokens is publicly displayed.
The contributions that earn tokens and the number of tokens that can be earned for each activity will be displayed on the website. These may change from time to time. In general, most contributions you make to the website (such as reviews and commenting) may earn tokens. We may also run token promotions, which we will advertise on the website or through email.
Each token will expire 12 months after the date it was earned. Expired tokens will be debited from your tally.
You will be able to see how many tokens you have earned when you are logged into the website. The dashboard will show a table of the reward tokens you have earned and redeemed. Another table will show how your reputation tokens are tracking compared with those of consumers you follow. We may also send you occasional updates showing how many reward and reputation tokens you have earned.
Super Reviewers will be recognised with an icon visible to all users of the website, and promoted on the leaderboard page. Reviews from Super Reviewers will have a greater positive influence on the search rank of the businesses they review.
We may also use the names of consumers with high levels of reputation tokens for publicity purposes (including on the website or in print).
You can use your reward tokens to request rewards from suppliers through the Localist Store. Our Localist Store will display the rewards available, the number of tokens you need to request each reward, and any other terms that will apply to the request of a reward, e.g. whether you will receive a voucher for the reward, or the actual reward; or any special terms that apply, such as age restrictions for alcohol. We can in our sole discretion change the suppliers, the rewards available and the number of tokens required to request a reward at any time.
Not all products listed in the Localist Store are available as rewards. You can only use your tokens to request products that are also offered as rewards. You will know which products are available as rewards because the product listing will tell you the number of tokens you need to request that reward.
When you request a reward, you agree to the terms on which that reward is offered, as set out in the Localist Store and on any voucher or other confirmation, and to any other terms relating to the reward specified by the supplier of the reward.
Your reward token tally will be debited by the relevant number of tokens. Reward requests are final and debited tokens will not be credited if you change your mind. In the event that the reward supplier refuses or is otherwise unable to honour your voucher (other than where you have failed to comply with any applicable terms), we will credit the tokens for the unredeemed reward to your reward tally.
You are required to let us know if you have received tokens in error. You cannot request a reward using tokens which you obtained in breach of these terms or received as the result of an error or fraud.
Your reward tally will be frozen, and you won’t be able to request rewards if we suspend or terminate access to the website or our digital product under any contract with you. Any fraudulent attempt to request a reward will result in the termination of your membership of the consumer rewards scheme.
If your request for a reward is successful, we will contact you using your registration contact details and may (at our sole discretion) provide you with the actual reward or a voucher for the reward. You will usually receive your reward or the voucher within ten working days of your receiving confirmation that your request was successful.
A voucher is to be redeemed with the relevant supplier, subject to any terms set out on the website or the voucher itself. Vouchers cannot be combined with any other offers, discounts or promotions, unless the supplier specifies otherwise. Vouchers must be used in full, and no change will be given.
Please look after your voucher. Neither we nor the supplier will be liable if the voucher is lost, stolen or damaged – whether in the course of delivery to you or afterwards.
Vouchers may only be redeemed up until their expiry date for the goods and/or services specified on the website and the voucher itself (if any). Vouchers , while having a face value of 4 cents per token for the purposes of the consumer rewards scheme, are not transferable for other goods and/or services or cash.
Reward goods or services
If we provide you with the actual reward (i.e. the goods) or you redeem your rewards voucher for goods or services, you accept that we have made no representations to you about those goods or services, including:
- as to the ownership of any goods;
- the safety, appropriateness, quality, fitness for purpose or legality of any goods or services; and
- that any goods or services will meet your requirements or expectations.
Our decision on all matters relating to our consumer rewards schemes is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
We can end the consumer rewards schemes at any time, at our sole discretion. If this happens, any tokens that a consumer has earned, but not yet redeemed in the Localist Store, will be cancelled. Your vouchers will still be valid for redemption, until their respective expiry dates.
Neither Localist nor any other company in the New Zealand Post Group of companies (or any employees, contractors and agents of any company in the New Zealand Post group), will be liable for any claims, losses, or costs and expenses which arise out of or are connected with the consumer rewards schemes, or the use of any goods or services which a consumer may receive by redeeming tokens or vouchers in accordance with these terms, except for liability that cannot be excluded by law.

We may want to change any of the information in this policy from time to time. Continuing to use our consumer rewards schemes will mean that you agree to our changes.
