Setting up your listing

Once you have registered your business with Localist, it’s easy to manage your listing on Localist.co.nz. You can do this by following these simple steps:

1. Create your account

Once you’ve registered your business with Localist, we’ll send you an e-mail containing information on how to set up your listing. Simply click on the ‘Set up my business profile’ link in the e-mail to get started. We’ll ask you to set a user name and password. Then just follow the on-screen prompts to access your My Localist profile.

2. View and update your listing details

On the left-hand column of your My Localist profile, you’ll see the names of the business listings that you have access to. Click on the business name and you'll be given the option to edit your listing details or view your listing.

Contact details

You can update the following contact details by clicking on ‘edit’ next to each field:

  • Physical address (providing a complete physical address, including your suburb,  will also allow your business to feature on a Google map on your listing)
  • Telephone number
  • Mobile number
  • Fax number
  • E-mail address
  • Website address
  • Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Skype accounts

You can choose whether to display all or just some of the details above on your listing by ticking or unticking the box next to each field. If you upgrade to a Marketplace, we'll display your Facebook and Twitter feeds on the right hand side of your listing when you add them into your contact details.

We currently don’t allow you to change your business name online. If you want to do this, please get in touch and one of our team will do this for you.

Business description

You can update your business description online. It’s important to have a good business description so that everyone will know what’s unique about your business. A good business description will tell people quickly and simply what your business is all about and what your key selling points are. It will also help search engines find you within our site.

Take a look at our Guide to Business Descriptions to find some handy hints and tips to make your business description work for you.

Products and services

Add a list of the products and services you offer (separated by commas) into the product and services field so everyone is clear about what you offer. If you offer particular products or services that set you apart from your competitors, this is the place to list them.

Our site looks at the content of your business description and product and services when people search our site, so make sure you include key words about your business that people are likely to search for.

3. Set up your profile

In your My Localist profile you can view and change key settings on your account, including your e-mail address and password, as well as setting your location. To do this, go to the My Localist area and click 'edit account'.

Setting your location allows Localist to supply you with the best and most relevant experience when using our site. You can also set up your avatar - the profile picture everyone will see when you post or make comments on the Localist site. Just click on the pencil icon on the avatar tab on the right hand side of the 'edit account' page to upload or change your picture. We suggest something like an image of your store or products you sell.
