"After living in London I finally understood why the English love their pubs so much. This place really is like a proper English pub. They even brew their own beer!"
28 Shortland Street, Auckland Central, Auckland 1010
"Located on Shortland St in Auckland's CBD, Cargo Coffee is the perfect antidote when you're stuck in the city but need a dose of sun. Enjoy your coffee in the courtyard next to the shipping container 'shop' or run it back to the office.. if you must."

"Perfect local wine shop. With the advent of supermarkets selling wine there are very few shops like this left in Auckland. Their own brand "skin" wine is a great bargain. Delicious quality wine. Knowlegeable customer service. Do yourself a favour, when you next need some wine spend a bit longer, find out what is available from the staff and support this local gem."

"Join the cheap coffee revolution! All cabinet food and coffee at Coffix are $2.50 and beautifully made - you don't have to pay extra for soy or decaf either. Mirela and the bearded barista are lovely - and not at all fazed by their meteoric rise in popularity!"

"Quite impressed at how many coffee machines and burr grinders were available to train on… You can also be trained on your own machine at their showroom or they’ll come to you! We weren’t getting much use out of our machine until we went on the home barista course… It sure is getting well used now!"
"Don't be put off by the packeting, Nadin is seriously good at putting together coffee blends for you to try at home"
Shop 11, Elliott Stables, 41 Elliott Street, Auckland Central, Auckland
"We went along last night for our first ever 'Whisky Tasting' having picked up a deal on Grabone. New to whisky, we have been blindly buying based on either what the bottle looks like, what the pocket can handle or what duty-free tasting was had. It was time to change. On arrival we were given our first tasting - a New Zealand blend from the remnants of the Wilson's distillery. The reception was warm and helpful. The tables were laid out with 5 tasting glasses, bread and olive oil, pens and pads and water jugs. We were taken through a short history and necessary information for any future whisky connoisseur. The whisky's were great, and were matched with food - sushi and cheese'n'crackers. A fine night and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about this amazing drop. "
"Whiskey! A taste of happiness, not to mention the medicinal value! This place is great. I love talking to experts about whiskey and what the staff here don't know isn't worth knowing."
Flat 2, 2 Shaddock Street, Eden Terrace, Auckland 1021
"A garage of beerful delights, we were offered a free sample of beer brewed with wild hops that had been left to ferment in a large open tray. It tasted interesting. From the outside this shop looks unassuming and you wouldn’t know it existed unless someone has tipped you off. Take some large empty vessels with you to fill up as they aren’t licensed to sell as a bar."
22A Cross Street, Auckland Central, Auckland 1010
"Little B is a quiet presence on Cross St but has remained a favourite for the smooth, malty coffee that they serve. It is a small space with plenty of personality from the large mural on one wall to the pallet crate shelving. There is also a selection of counter food and Cross St is a peaceful alternative to K'Rd for sitting outside and enjoying a bite to eat."
"Fantastic little espresso bar itucked behind the IronBank building on the Cross Street. Really easy parking. These people introduced me to the joys of soft and subtle single origin coffees using a syphon. Delicous. Not too bitter and interesting flavours."

"Probably the largest Glengarry in Auckland, the Victoria Park store has a great selection of wine etc., and the staff are friendly and knowledgable. Right next to Dida's too, so you can pick up some antipasto to enjoy with that bottle of Italian red."
"Glengarry Wines in Victoria Park have the largest range of beer on tap that I have ever seen! The staff are always knowledgeable and more then happy to give out multiple samples to help you make a decision about which beer you’d like to have filled in your Flagon/Growler to take home. They tend to have a lot of the common Stoke range on tap, but make up for this with some other exotic brews you’ve never heard of (including some international ones!)."
"For all those uncles you haven’t seen in a year, distant cousins and for that emergency gift you need on hand to avoid awkward moments when someone you hadn’t expected to see shows up, with a pressy. Aged whiskeys, Christmas champagne, Marlbourough Pinots, craft beers, dessert wines - done, easy #crowdpleasers."

"They were once the new kids on the block when CityWorks Depot opened its doors in downtown Auckland but now Three Beans has firmly entrenched itself into the city’s coffee scene. I urge anyone who goes here not just to stop in for a flat white to takeaway. Instead, sit down, take time and experience the real deal because Three Beans make the serving of their in-house coffee an event. The flat white is served in good-quality china cups on trays that denote the coffee origin you have chosen and even comes with those adorable kitsch spoons to stir the crema. This place is for all about embracing what it means to be a tried-and-true coffee snob and their barista gets it right every time out of the gate. There are NEVER any mistakes. Thank you, Three Beans for changing my Auckland coffee experience for the better."
"It’s tucked away, it’s a hidden gem - there are a range of coffee making methods to sample, and a range of roasts too. You can watch the beans being roasted whilst you sip - the staff are friendly & the coffee is delicious"
