Whangarei - the promised land of plenty. The warm climate and dependable rainfall produce rich soil which allows the Farmers at this growers market to produce a range of quality fruits and vegetables. The range is vast, and drawing from the inspiration of UK and Europe traditional markets it has been a hit since 1998. Being the first of its kind in New Zealand, it has now become the largest Farmers market with over 100 producers and stalls selling fresh produce.

Best Market in Northland area for spray free, organic seasonal food

From 6:30 am till 10:30 am every Saturday morning you’ll find most of Whangarei’s keen growers, buskers and butchers setting up stalls in the huge car park on Water Street. I don’t think any bag can carry the amount of amazing goods you wanna take with you after coming to this market! I love coming to grab my weekly veg essentials. Keep an eye out for the smoked mullet, it goes fast!

Nothing beats an early rise to get in on the race to grab the best vege's in town! Everything and anything you need is here, even smoked fish and shiitake mushrooms! I really enjoy walking around with a nice hot crepe and listening to the various buskers this market has to offer. It's a perfect addition to any weekend.

It couldn’t be a market list without the classic Whangarei market. I got a really yummy fejoa and apple juice from here recently that was the perfect balance of tartness. I also love their fresh breads like the carrot and zucchini one.

This market has a bounty of the freshest organic produce at various stalls. Go for a browse and you’ll come out with full bags. If you’re not sure how organic the produce is, ask the stall owner - they’re probably the grower too! Also make sure you nip down here early to get the best produce as it can sell out.

This is a farmers market that shouldn't be missed. It's been around almost 20 years and has a keen following to suit. Locals flock every week to buy their produce, grab a coffee and have a gossip. You find the freshest and best value veges here. I love buying chilli, lime and coriander. It's always better quality than the supermarket and makes every dish taste delicious!

A great way to spend a Saturday morning, soaking up the bustling atmosphere provided by the reliable crowds and entertaining buskers, and collecting inspiration for your freshest of fresh weekend meals. Grab a coffee and take your time. It's going to be a wonderful day.
