Located north of the Manawatu Gorge between Ashhurst and Woodville, Te Apiti Wind Farm gives visitors the opportunity to get up close to a series of 55 giant wind turbines. The first wind farm in NZ to connect directly to Transpower's national grid, the farm was officially opened in 2004.

Operated by Meridian Energy, the 70 meter high structures provide enough energy for 45,000 average homes with no harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

The viewing platform is open daily from 8.30am to 5pm and features an information point giving a fascinating insight into these great feats of engineering.
