A original book plate designed and printed by E Mervyn Taylor New Zealands leading book plate designer .This book plate was done for Desmond Buckley of Wellington New Zealand .A teacher . An associate of Pat Lawlor the famous book collector and publisher who lived in Central Wellington in the early to mid 20th century . Well actually Pat lawlor most probably spent most of his time in book shops and auctions or tea rooms discussing books .Pat was a genuine bookman .Old school .
Definition of an Exlibris Book Plate : A label with arms , crests etc printed on it and with the name of the books owner also printed onto the label , the book plate [label] is then pasted down onto the front inner cover of the book , states owner ship . Records provinance of previous owners .
Please note that generally book plates do not have much value , they are sought after though and they form a very small part of book collecting history . Desmond Buckleys bookplate sells for about $30 to $40 NZD if you can find a buyer .
