Rere Rockslide is a free attraction located on the Wharekopae River, 50km north-west of Gisborne. A natural 60m long smooth rock formation over which the river flows, there is a large swimming hole at the bottom.

The high speed water slide has become a big hit with both locals and visitors who can go down bare or on tyres and boogie boards which can be hired from the Gisborne i-SITE.

Suitable for all ages with care, if you aren't brave enough to take part, then it can also be a hugely entertaining spectator sport and you will often see families picnicking nearby enjoying all the action.

It is so much fun to grab and old inner tube or boogie boards and head for these amazing falls, where you can hoop and holler as loud as you can as you take the ride down the natural rock formation. Kids love it and why not find your inner child and have a go.

Once, only the locals did know about this hidden paradise, but it has become the world’s worst kept secret. The Rere Rockslide is free, fun and a fantastic 60-metre-long natural water slide on the smooth rock of water-worn Wharekopae River, about 50km from Gisborne. Even better if you have a boogie board, inflatable mattress and inner tube. Take a picnic and enjoy a family feast at the falls after.

About half an hour out of Gisborne. A 60m long rock slide into a pool at the bottom. Prepare for some bruises, but trust me the fun is worth the pain the next day.
