As somebody who spent years in the Middle East, I can't stand the word 'kebab' when for years, I've known that 'shawarma' is the actual Arabic way of referring to meat wrapped in bread and prepared in the Middle Eastern way. (If the Avengers could get it right, so can everyone else) So when I was walking down New North Road in Kingsland looking for a place to have lunch, I saw 'Petra Shawarma' as the sign above their restaurant and just had to try it. I had a chicken shawarma and though it wasn't the conventional way of serving it, I must say that I really liked it. Especially for the wonderful salad on the side. My shawarma was crisp on the outside and soft but not dripping on the inside. I thought it was fantastic and the owner was telling me all about her father and her king in Jordan. It was really nice to actually taste the love in their food. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
We stopped into this new Middle Eastern restaurant and were really impressed by the tasty food and interesting decor. Not just your usual kebab shop! I ordered a chicken shawerma, and my boyfriend had a chicken on rice meal. Both were served with a lovely fresh salad and delicious sauces. The rice meal was covered in delicious roasted kashews. We even tried some of their unusual pomegranate drink and mini baklava for dessert - divine! This new restaurant is a lovely addition to the Kingsland scene.
I thought I was fortunate to have visited this place, the falafel was so yummy. They always make fresh food here. With wide options of Shawerma type food which is very unique and yummy, I strongly recommend this place (the kebab lovers especially would definitely enjoy this Shawerma type food). And not to mention the warm, friendly service from Dalal and her team. Great place to visit if you are keen to have yummy food with great service.
