On the western side of the Wellington Harbour stands Mount Kaukau, overlooking the CBD and the harbour from it's 445 metre high summit. The Mountain's considerable height is accentuated by the large TV transmitter erected at its peak which is the most visible point in the Wellington landscape.

The way to the peak is pathed all the way making Mount Kaukau the perfect trail for an afternoon trudge or an adventure with your dogs. Once you scale the peak the views are well worth it with panoramic vistas over the city, the harbour as well as the Rimutaka Ranges and the crystal blue expanses of the Tasman Sea.

Awesome for a good outdoor workout, with beautiful views! Really gets those calf muscles working! #myfoodbag

Mt Kaukau is the highest point around Wellington and on a good day you can easily see the south island and sometimes as far north as Mt Taranaki. It is a reasonable climb up through Khandallah Park (40 minutes or so) but the views are well worth the walk.
