Little & Friday raise the bar for cafe food in NZ; their quiches, pies, tarts, cakes and slices are delicious. Particular stand outs were the carrot cake and their chocolate lamington (a rich, chocolatey pyramid of cake rolled in ganache and shreds of coconut). On the drinks front, they sling Supreme coffee and Six Barrel sodas.
In true Localist fashion we had a Donuts day on Friday. Little & Friday came to the office with a tray of their fresh Donuts filled with berries and a cream custard ooooohhhhh ssssoooo good. Nothing else will come close to bettering these Donuts. You must stop in and pick one up if your ever in Newmarket
This place is just wonderful. I love the big tables, and although it is always super duper busy, I've always been able to get enough seats. The cabinet food is amazing – worth making a special trip for. The pastry is homemade, light, crispy and delicious. They also have 2 savoury and 2 sweet gluten free options, and do yum ginger lattes. The only trick is picking from all the goodies (of course there is always the option to have something there and take something home!). Most recent treat was a pumpkin, bacon and blue cheese quiche. Delish! Especially with the chutneys they have for customers to help themselves. Forgot to take a pic before I got stuck in :O
I don't need to head to the shore for my L&F fix now! There's always a steady stream of customers so you gotta head in there before everything sells out. Fantastic baristas with consistent, creamy coffee and of course we're all there for the baked goods. I've bought the Little & Friday treats book but so far it's more of a picture book than an actual manual. I prefer to buy their delectable goodies instead! Their jam donut and bay custard tart is a favourite of mine. Instead of the traditional cinnamon and custard it's a bay leaf which just lends a fantastic spice twist. So creamy and the pastry is always perfect.
