Before you call an electrician for a hot water problem, call your energy supplier and ask them if there is a known fault in the area, depending on the company, they will often send someone to have a look at the problem at no charge (make sure you ask them first if it is free!). If they tell you to call an electrician, then call Cramond Electrical Services. A large number of hot water call outs are due to power board problems and the customer should not have to pay for that!
If you have lost power or lights, check you fuse box or switchboard, in New Zealand, circuit breakers are the opposite way to light switches, up is on! If it wont stay on, then call Cramond Electrical Services. For rewireable porcelain fuses, take extra care when removing them as you can get an electric shock if you arenot careful, TURN OFF THE MAIN SWITCH BEFORE YOU PULL OUT THE FUSE CARRIER! Sometimes when a light bulb blows, the fuse or circuit breaker blows too...
Energy saving compact fluro lamps will not work with a dimmer, so for mood lighting, try a free standing floor lamp with a low wattage lamp. Energy saving lamps will flicker sometimes, if your lights are not working, try a lamp you know to be ok in the light fitting, if that doesnt work, then call Cramond Electrical Services.
