Lovely curries, my first time trying ethiopian and it was good!

Auckland’s only Ethiopian restaurant. The whole experience is so unique - these are meals meant to share so go with an open mind and clean hands. The owners are super friendly and the decoration has a full on african vibe. As for the meals, they come served on injera bread which is basically like a really really large sourish pancake, served with your choice of meats in the middle. Always fresh and so tasty - I highly reccomend this place.

Cafe Abyssinia is well worth the drive to industrial Mt Roskill for it’s unique Ethiopian dishes. You are served delicious, rich curries on large pancake style sour bread which you use to mop up the curries - no cutlery and it is a large platter shared with the whole table. Lots of fun and quite a culinary adventure.

This family-run restaurant will be a treat for anyone, as you get to grips (literally) with the cuisine of Ethiopia. The best option is to ask for a small amount of every dish.

Ever wondered what the food is like in Ethiopia? I’ll admit, it had never really crossed my mind before either. I had no idea what to expect and in some ways that was part of the draw card. The restaurant is at the end of a tiny shopping space and isn’t exactly oozing with charm but just go with it, trust me, for all that is lost in translation through the décor, the food certainly makes up for. The only place in the country to get a taste of Ethiopia so get some friends together and order one of everything, this is definitely a communal food experience.
