All breads at Little Bread and Butter Bakery Ponsonby are made from certified organic ingredients!
At Bread & Butter shops you will find a selection of traditional German sourdoughs, French crusty baguettes, wheat free sourdoughs, and seeded loaves. They have south-German pretzels and pretzel breads, naturally leavened, yeast-, dairy-, and gluten-free bread.
Little Bread and Butter Bakery Ponsonby's breads are baked on stone tiles, which gives them a robust crust that seals in flavour and keeps them fresh for longer. Their bread is as good as bread can be, because they love bread!

This place is totally adorable. Not only do they sell delicious filled rolls, pastries and buns, but you can buy bread of your choice by the slice and toast it to your liking in one of the many toasters that sit on the main shared table. Another highlight of this place is the Hakanoa Ginger latte - a warming spicy treat.
The Bread & Butter Bakery is a newish addition to Auckland’s baked goods scene. With a solid selection of delicious baked treats and a grasp on how to make good coffee it’s hard to not be impressed. Pictured is a hot cross bun which I didn’t eat. I have it on good authority that it was ‘the best hot cross bun I’ve had all year”. On my list to try is the pretzel roll, apparently this salty little bun will change your life!
I am so glad I found this organic bakery - they make the best bread ever! It is real, and authentic and super yummy - no matter if you eat it with cheese, with a dip or with jam. I also loved the pastries which I have tried! And now I don't have to go all the way to Ellerslie for it anymore but can just get it at the organic shop in Grey Lynn! I saw that you guys have the competition to write a review about the Hot Cross Buns but unfortunately I didn't know about it earlier and I won't be able to come to try them before Sunday. But with the awesome bread and great pastries that you are making, I am sure they would be the best I have ever tasted. Please keep doing what you're doing!
I used to a real regular to this place when it opened in the mid-00s. Back then it was called Boulangerie L'epi and was run by a French woman, Sylvie. I'm not sure when she sold up and left, but it seemed like the quality went downhill when she did, and after a couple of slightly disappointing Danish pastries I started going to Farro for weekend-baked-treats instead. (That and, truth be told, I'm more of a fan of French baked good than German ones.) A wander 'round Ellerslie on Sunday took us back there and - wahay! - the baked German cheesecake, cherry Danish and soft pretzel were all lovely. We'll be back ...
