Helmed by Pascal Murello and Manual Garcia, formerly of Mondial in Grey Lynn, Beresford Square Wine Bar is a cosy spot on balmy and wintery nights alike. Making it even cosier is their 4-6pm happy hour on house wine ($7) and beer ($6). Given your hosts' aversion to bad wine, 'settling' for house is far from a bad situation. Stick around and get stuck into the broader wine menu, or hook into a carafe of fresh sangria - and don't forget the tapas! The mozzarella bruschetta ($13.50) is a very good place to start.

Every time I visit the Beresford Square Wine Bar, I ask about their food specials because they tend to feature something delicious and creative! Although the menu on the chalk board on the wall is also delightful. I love the atmosphere here and trust their wine expertise and recommendations. Always a good time at Beresford.
