The Variety Voices Choir will descend upon Auckland's Central Library with a 'flash mob' rendition of Brooke Fraser's 'Something in the water' to launch NZ Music Month on Tuesday 1 May at 5pm.
"Auckland Libraries is proud to be supporting NZ Music Month," says Music Librarian Marilyn Portman.
"We have an extensive collection of CDs, sheet music and music-related books, as well as the unique 'Made in Auckland' collection of CDs by unsigned Auckland musicians.
"Hosting Variety Voices is a fitting way to kick off Music Month in our libraries," she says.
Variety Voices is a group scholarship offered by Variety - The Children's Charity. Variety Voices is an opportunity for talented young people to share the joy of rehearsing and performing together at events, whether disabled or able-bodied, facing challenges or not.
The group of 40 singing stars, aged between 7 and 18, is led by professional musician, musical director and composer James Doy, and meets weekly to produce entertaining and inspirational performances. This is no ordinary choir, think Glee!, think Idol, think X-Factor!
The flash mob will happen on the ground floor of the Central Library, 44-46 Lorne St from 5pm.

Can it be a flashmob if you tell people about it in advance?
True...it's a very kiwiana type flashmob!
Ah, I see it's flash mob, so a double entendre....
