Ophelia Thinks Harder
by Jean Betts and William Shakespeare, directed by Robyn Donnelly
Ophelia Thinks Harder is a raucous reworking of "Hamlet" using many Shakespearean quotes to feed and complicate the story - Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and others are drawn upon skilfully to provide a very different perspective and a surprising outcome.
This production is set in New Zealand in the 1980s to tie in with the strong, now slightly anachronistic, feminist messages and to honour the fact that Jean Betts is a New Zealand playwright.
