Held every month at Dhamma Medini Vipassana Meditation Centre in Kaukapakapa, this 10-day retreat is a wonderful way to reconnect with the inner you. You will be unable to speak throughout – which sounds like a huge challenge – but attendees often find the experience transformative. Vipassana meditation is based on Buddhist principles, but people of all religions and belief systems are welcomed. You will be meditating for up to ten hours a day; and days begin at 6am and end at 9pm.
Located on beautiful Waiheke Island, this is accommodation with a difference. Run by an ex-pharmacist, who now practices alternative medicine, the retreat offers a range of rejuvenating health and wellbeing treatments – including yoga and massage. An in-house chef is on hand to prepare meals made from organic produce, and you can take time to swim at the local beach, or relax in the spa.
Set in the bush in the Waitakere Ranges, this new retreat is pretty unique. It offers accommodation, vegetarian food, and a wide range of alternative treatments, including massage, reiki, reflexology and more. There is a large room available for people to practice tai chi or yoga, a swimming pool and sauna, and a range of meditation resources.
